FAQ
Will I be forced to join the military?
No, AFJROTC is not used to recruit Cadets into any of the branches in the military. Some cadets that come in do gain an interest in the military and end up enlisting but you are under any obligation to enlist after graduation.
Will someone be yelling in my face?
No, this is not special forces strict. There is discipline but not to the point where someone is yelling in your face.
Why is JROTC so strict?
JROTC isn't as strict as people seem to make it. We are taught discipline but it isn't like what you see in movies or television, we also have events such as the Dining In, Awards Ceremony, and Military Ball where we come together and have fun as a Squadron.
I don't know anyone in JROTC and I don't want to seem like an outsider, what can I do?
The squadron is like one big family. You will make friends quickly, especially through the Drill Team or Honor Guard, and you will make bonds with people you never expected.
I want to be a leader but I'm afraid to fail, how will this help me?
Col. Thomas Sparaco and Chief Jack Malone teach Leadership Education throughout the time that you are here. If you work hard and get promoted, you will have more chances to be a leader. Everyone messes up at least once, it's just another chance to learn from mistakes and improve upon them!
What can JROTC do for me?
If you're really interested in the program and are very involved, you could apply for an ROTC scholarship for college. The program also gives you credit towards graduation.
Why join in the first place?
JROTC is more than just a class, it teaches leadership and life skills that will help you in the future, such as filling out a resume and figuring out what you want to do in life. The Squadron is a family and you are sure to meet new people and make friends. JROTC also looks good for college applications and can even help you out financially if you qualify.
Will this benefit me if I wanted to enlist in the Armed Forces?
Being in JROTC for 3 or more years can entitle a cadet to a heightened pay grade (E-2 or E-3) prior to Basic Training. The level of pay grade varies per branch.
